Ep. 26: Building sites with 11ty CMS and Silex

In this episode, we have two website builder tools: Jessie will talk about 11ty CMS, and Alex will show us Silex.

Build 11ty sites visually with full control — or let a web designer hop in

Alex Hoyau will demo how Silex can be used to build 11ty sites visually — either by developers or by web designers with no code. He’ll show how to start a Silex project from the CLI in an 11ty setup, connect a CMS and an API, then do the same demo from the visual editor at v3.silex.me. Free, open source, and fully in the spirit of 11ty.

Alex Hoyau (he/him)

For over 20 years, Alex Hoyau has been building the web as a CTO, JavaScript developer, and open-source advocate. He co-founded Internet2000.net, a web studio focused on eco-conception, and maintains silex.me, a visual website builder that generates 11ty sites. His passion is creating tools that stay true to the web and empower developers, designers, and anyone eager to learn.

11tyCMS: A FOSS, offline first, local CMS app for 11ty

I wanted to make 11ty sites easier to manage, easier to write for. But I didn't want the overhead of hosting a server or a web app just to manage what should be a static site. So I'm developing an electron app to manage 11ty websites. A CMS with NO servers, no subscriptions or costs, entirely FOSS. Welcome to 11tyCMS!

Jessie (they/she)

I'm a PA school drop out, with a passion for all things science and tech! I've been coding for 15 years and love to work on FOSS projects. I love the open web and want to do whatever I can to strengthen it.
